In June 2026, Harvard astrophysicist Avi Loeb was asked by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence to assemble and lead a multidisciplinary UAP Science Advisory Council. The group pulls together experts in astrophysics, physics, biology, psychology, engineering, artificial intelligence, oceanography, and philosophy. Jennice Vilhauer — a clinical psychologist and former director of Emory University's Adult Outpatient Psychotherapy Program — serves on the council, examining how human perception and reporting shape what we actually know about these phenomena.

NASA followed its own path. On June 9, 2022, the agency announced it was commissioning an independent study team to examine UAP from a rigorous scientific perspective. That team published its final report on September 14, 2023, with a series of recommendations for how NASA could help move understanding forward. Harvard's Galileo Project has built dedicated observatories collecting high-quality data on millions of objects, searching specifically for outliers outside the performance envelope of human-made technology.

The point isn't that we've solved anything. It's that the question is no longer considered off-limits.

Let’s be blunt: if these objects are foreign tech, we’re already losing.

The 2023 Chinese surveillance balloon that drifted across the U.S. heartland wasn’t an anomaly. It was a warning. And if UAPs are being deployed by hostile actors — whether Russia, China, or someone else — then every unexplained blip on a radar screen could be a spy mission. The Pentagon’s AARO office has already flagged 40% of reported UAPs as unexplained. That’s not science fiction. That’s a gaping hole in our national airspace defense.

We don’t need to believe in extraterrestrials to be terrified of what’s happening here.
