The Big News: AWS Partners with Superblocks on Vibe Coding for Enterprise Clouds
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is making a major play in the AI developer tools market by enabling vibe-coding startup Superblocks to embed its tool directly into the private clouds of AWS customers. This multiyear joint marketing agreement, announced recently, represents one of the most significant moves yet from hyperscalers transitioning from pure infrastructure providers to sellers of AI capabilities.
What Is Vibe Coding?
Vibe coding is a no-code/low-code approach that uses large language models (LLMs) to generate working software through natural language and design inputs rather than traditional programming. The term was coined by ex-Facebook engineers who pioneered the concept at Superblocks, where users can "vibe code" — describing what they want in plain language or sketching interfaces — and have functional applications built automatically.
This approach is fundamentally different from tools like GitHub Copilot or Cursor that assist developers with code suggestions. How It Works: Private Cloud Integration
The technical implementation is where this partnership gets interesting for enterprise customers. Superblocks' agents will integrate with two key AWS services:
Amazon Aurora databases will spin up within the company's private cloud, not external providers like Supabase (which has been the vibe-coding database of choice in other platforms). This means data never leaves the customer's AWS account.
The apps also automatically connect to Amazon Bedrock, AWS's AI app development and inference platform. The applications fall under IT management and security controls rather than becoming rogue tools that operate outside enterprise governance.
"The big thing about that is data never leaves," Superblocks CEO Brad Menezes told TechCrunch. "It's their AWS account and basically secure with all of the auditing, all of the encryption, all of the network controls."
Why Enterprises Care: The Data Security Angle
For business leaders, the primary appeal isn't just convenience — it's control. The partnership addresses a critical concern that has emerged as enterprises adopt AI tools at scale: where does data go when you use an AI-powered application?
Superblocks' integration ensures that all data stays within the customer's AWS private cloud, with full audit trails and encryption. This is particularly important for companies operating in regulated industries or handling sensitive customer information. AWS's Strategic Positioning
AWS doesn't yet have its own vibe-coding agent aimed at business users. The company does offer Kiro, an AI coding agent for developers, and Quick, an AI assistant for business users that's more comparable to Microsoft Copilot or Anthropic's Claude Cowork. But this Superblocks partnership signals AWS's intent to enter the emerging vibe-coding market with a strategic partner rather than building from scratch.
"We support partners where we see strong customer demand and alignment with how customers want to build," an AWS spokesperson stated. The company will help sell Superblocks to enterprises as it does for many Marketplace partners, effectively leveraging its existing enterprise relationships.
Superblocks: The Startup Behind the Partnership
Founded by ex-Facebook engineers in 2025, Superblocks has quickly become a notable player in the AI developer tools space with just 50 employees and $60 million in funding, including Series A backing from Spark Capital, Kleiner Perkins, Meritech Capital, and Greenoaks. The company already powers internal tooling at major organizations including Coinbase, Notion, and Google (including YouTube's AI features).
For Superblocks, this partnership provides crucial validation and distribution channels through AWS's massive enterprise customer base. But for AWS, it represents a strategic foothold in the vibe-coding category, an emerging market that could become as important as traditional cloud infrastructure.
The Broader Industry Trend: Cloud Providers Pushing AI Scaffolding
This isn't an isolated partnership. It's part of a growing trend where hyperscaler cloud providers are urging enterprise customers to separate their AI models from the other scaffolding needed to run enterprise AI, and do so on their clouds.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has been vocal about this strategy, telling enterprise customers to use multiple models to reduce costs and avoid lock-in while warning that AI labs may not be trustworthy enough for agent orchestration or app-level harnesses because they could later compete with a business's data.
The message from cloud providers is clear: buy AI tools, security, orchestration, and infrastructure from us, not the frontier model providers. Enterprises have already begun adopting multi-model strategies, 60 days ago many were locked into single providers like Anthropic, but now open models accounted for 29% of traffic routed through Vercel's AI gateway last month alone.
Superblocks CEO Brad Menezes is blunt about the trend: "Any enterprise that is betting on a single model provider, that executive will be fired." He predicts enterprises will need multi-model strategies across big frontier labs like OpenAI and Anthropic, plus open-source options including Chinese providers and emerging U.S. alternatives.
What This Means for Agentic AI
This partnership also signals something bigger about the future of agentic AI, AI systems that can perform complex workflows autonomously. By embedding Superblocks' vibe-coding agents into private clouds, AWS is essentially creating a marketplace where enterprises can buy and deploy intelligent applications without managing the underlying infrastructure.
