Real-World Use Cases Demonstrated

In one example, for instance, a user asked about schedule information for the World Cup, followed by a request for recipes inspired by a Brazil vs Morocco match, then asked for a dessert he remembered had been mentioned recently by his friend Maria (which Siri found in his Messages app). He then asked Siri to integrate this all into a watch party menu and to send that menu to his group chat alongside an invite.

The sequence demonstrated several breakthrough capabilities: first, Siri had to retrieve sports information from the web; second, it needed to understand culinary preferences and search for relevant recipes; third, and most notably, it had to recall a specific dessert mentioned in a previous conversation stored in the user's Messages app—without being explicitly told which message or timeframe to search.

The final request required Siri to synthesize all the gathered information into a cohesive watch party plan, create a shared menu, and distribute it to the user's group chat with an invitation. This multi-step process would typically require the user to manually switch between multiple apps and remember various details, but Siri AI handled it as a single coherent conversation.

In another demo, the Siri conversation started with a question about where a photo of an arch was taken, then moved to finding the address of a friend named Jeff who had recently moved. With those answers in hand, Siri was able to "give me directions to the arch with a stop at Jeff's" directly via Apple Maps, without having to juggle the information manually.

This sequence demonstrated Siri's ability to maintain context across multiple requests and build upon previous answers. Rather than treating each question as an isolated query, Siri AI understood that the user wanted to plan a trip that included both locations simultaneously—a level of cognitive processing previously unavailable in voice assistants.

On-Device Intelligence and Personal Context

Siri AI can know what's happening on your device screen, Apple said. The on-device assistant can display on-screen understanding to tailor its assistance based on what you're doing at that moment. This screen awareness allows Siri to provide contextually relevant suggestions and actions without requiring explicit commands.

For example, if you receive an email with a concert schedule in image format, Siri AI can extract all the relevant date and time information from that image and add it to your calendar automatically, without you having to manually type anything. This capability leverages Apple's on-device machine learning models that have been trained specifically for document and image understanding.

Siri AI utilizes "world knowledge" by searching the web using private cloud compute to generate answers, Apple said, and integrates with app actions to figure out which tools to use to complete a task.
